I have been interviewing fresh graduates for the last few years. Shockingly, 70% of the students have no basic knowledge about basic programming and algorithms. The funny part is, many job seekers ask me “which job is best for computer science students” during the interview.

The IT Industry is one of the emerging and fastest-growing industries of this decade. If you are an experienced IT person, your inbox will be flooded with job offers ready to give you a hike on your current salary. Due to the huge growth of newly emerging startups, there are job vacancies increasing day by day for skilled workers. Yet many students, especially in India, are facing problems. The major reason is students are not upskilled/ignorant about the requirements of the potential employer. Many students are found searching terms such as jobs for computer science engineers and skills for computer science students

Every one of us knows that the education system is broken. The outdated syllabus, lack of practical and project-based opportunities in the universities and improper guidance towards trending technologies, and also lack of career guidance are the reasons for the students suffering from unemployment or low wage employment even after burning lots of cash in the universities.

If students are clear about their career goals right from the beginning or during the computer science graduation/engineering and start making baby steps to upskill for that particular goal, it will be quite easier to land a dream job immediately after graduation/engineering. Lots of computer science students are unable to think beyond web development as their career option.  So I am listing a few of the best career options/skills one can pursue during/after graduation.

  1. Python programming:

Unfortunately, we are not taught to think beyond C, C++ programming language in our universities. Not to deny their popularity but most students give up because of the complex syntax of these languages. Python on the other hand is a very easy-to-learn programming language with a simpler syntax. Python is also one of the most popular languages of this decade. By learning python you have broad career options like web development, game development, data science, machine learning, cloud computing, etc. Many popular sites like Instagram, uber, and even quora are developed on python.

  1. Data Science and Artificial Intelligence:

Data science is one of the sexist jobs of the 20th century. Data science and artificial intelligence are some of the best career options in 2022. According to the research, there will be thousands/millions of career opportunities for computer science students and skilled data scientists in the next decade across the world. For more detailed clarification check out the Top 5 reasons to pursue a career in data science in 2022. You can learn data science by the following steps.

  • Learn Programming Language (Python, R)

  • Data Visualization and Data Analysis.

  • Machine Learning and AI.

  • NLP, OCR, and Deep Learning.

  1. Data Analytics:

Data analytics is another subset of data science with huge demand in the market. Businesses are getting more data-driven than before. So data analytics is a good option even if you are not very good at programming. Thanks to many tools like tableau, Power BI, etc. Many Non-technical students are transiting into data analytics for a better career. One of the best career opportunities for computer science students could be data Analytics with Python. Libraries like pandas and NumPy are good at Data analytics with python.

  1. Hadoop/Big Data:-

As per the Forbes report, the Hadoop and the Big Data market will reach $99.31B in 2022 attaining a 28.5% CAGR. It is also one of the best career options and a great skill for computer science students. Jobs can be categorized in the following forms in Hadoop.

  • Hadoop Administrator

  • Hadoop Architect

  • Big Data Analyst

  • Hadoop Developer

  • Hadoop Tester

  1. Cloud Computing:

Cloud computing is a virtual space that delivers hosted services over the Internet, including servers, databases, networking, analytics, and intelligence, and ensures innovation, flexibility, and cost-effectiveness. There is a huge demand for trained and certified Cloud Practitioners and the market is also growing rapidly.  Amazon Web Service (AWS), Microsoft Azure, and Google Cloud Platform are the three most in-demand cloud computing platforms. Computer science and even non-technical students are getting well paid in this domain.

These are the top best career options for computer science students.  There are lots of free and paid courses online available to learn these technologies while graduating.
